I really am in the mindset of Getting Rid Of. I truly don’t think I can absorb one more thing into my life without removing 10, you know? I recently donated a couple of bags of clothes and could do with a few more. And when I do…it’s time to shop.
For some context: I have a list of things that I’m Allowed To Buy. When I see things (expensive things mostly), I make myself sit on it for 2 months or so. If I still want it, I can get it, but it has to be on The List. The List is something I made when I was thinking clearly and not in the haze of a good photo or a gorgeous display. If it’s something affordable, I still check to make sure I’m not impulse shopping. It’s my North Star! There are a few good things I’m looking forward to for Spring from The List and some exciting iterations I’ve found below. It should be noted, my ideal spring/summer outfit does not touch my body. There is not one single reason why I should feel fabric against my skin in the Manhattan heat. If I do, I will simply melt on the spot.
I want to end by saying that I see a lot. I am online a lot. It’s my job and also a sickness that I have. I really don’t want to see any more “trend” lists or must-buys or shop guides of the same 10 items from the same 5 brands. Live a little. Have a point of view!! It’s so nice to be able to acknowledge gorgeous, well-made things…but maybe we’ve all lost the plot and perspective on personal style a bit in the algorithm-ification of life. I love a Forever Wardrobe but that doesn’t mean cookie-cutter, copy paste. The only people I trust not only know what’s good, they know how to wear it and make it seem desirable, regardless of where it’s from. Anyway !! Some fun stuff below will be sure to shake you out of your The Row trousers, as well as a new brand fixation and revisiting a makeup bag staple !! Love ya!
Pedal Pushers
Some of you may not be old enough to remember this but pedal pushers are a generally heinous cut of spandex that ran the ‘90s…and the ‘50s. I think, let’s do it again! It’s not a capri despite what the PDP may say. It’s not. It’s cut 3 inches below the knee and if done correctly makes your calfs look not bad? I just think leggings and spandex will never go out of style and its many forms will always look appropriate when worn with the right thing! I have played around with this over the last few years in leotards, bike shorts, pixie cut pants, and most recently the cropped flare pant. I have also reconsidered the stirrup, but maybe that’s for another time. My mom always used to wear them when I was a kid and later in life I had a phase of pulling the back of my leggings onto my heel and wearing them like that in ballet flats…it was very cool! This is what’s next! I’d pair both the stirrup and pedal pusher with a ballet flat or a backless little mule.
